If your department needs currency or coin denominations to conduct UCI business, we can help.  We offer currency and coin services Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at Window 1 (on the far right as you face our office). Your change order can be filled with current stock while you wait.  For convenience, we have strapped quantities of currency and pre-packed boxes of coin available, ready for purchase.  

We also supply currency and coin for UCI students, staff, and faculty who may need to break a large bill, or to get change for personal reasons.  However, we no longer accept loose or rolled coin from individuals who want larger denominations.  All transactions must be in U.S. funds; we do not accept foreign currencies for exchange.    

With the exception of petty cash, we do not provide check cashing services.  Personal and business checks may be accepted as payments for goods or services, but we do not give cash back, even for checks drawn on the University's account.  Please deposit your payroll, work-study, or financial aid check, and obtain cash from your personal bank account.

Call Ahead

If you anticipate needing large quantities of a specific denomination of currency, or boxes of coin, please call ahead to check availability.  That way, we can confirm that your requested amount is on hand, before you visit the Central Cashier.  If we need to request an amount from the bank, there may be a delay of one or two days while our order is being processed and delivered.  Always plan ahead, especially if you need currency or coin on a specific date.

Placing an Order

To place a change order, follow the simple steps below:

• Complete an Operating Cash Request Form, indicating the quantity of currency denominations and coin that you need by circling the appropriate amounts.  For example, if you are requesting $500.00 worth of ones, circle the number "500" in the ones column on the form.
• Bring the Operating Cash Request Form to the Central Cashier, along with the money you wish to exchange for currency and coin amounts.  For faster service, use Window 1, which is available for change orders, petty cash, and departmental deposits.

The table below lists each denomination of currency, with the pre-packaged strapped amount that is readily available for purchase:
